Blog Post #4 - Stuart Halls representation theory

Image
Stuart Halls representation theory is that in media, certain groups of people are represented in different ways based on the stereotype of that certain group of people. Another idea that Stuart Hall believed is that stereotypes reduce people to assumptions that may not be true. In films, filmmakers will usually use stereotypes in order to represent characters in the film. Sometimes, Filmmakers will include counter stereotypes in their media in order to contradict a certain stereotype that is normally used in other films. A benefit that comes from using counter stereotypes in film is that they can reduce stereotyping towards a certain group of people. Some examples of representations in films are Patriarchy, Multi culturalism, and ageism. In most films the main person in authority is a male. This represents patriarchy by showing a male being in authority. In many films, multiple people of different ethnicities work together in order to achieve a goal. This represents multi cultural...

Blog Post #3 - Lighting techniques

Image
In filmmaking, many lighting techniques are used for a variety of reasons in order to create a well made film. Lighting techniques can emphasize objects or people, create certain moods, and make certain scenes more dramatic to appeal better to the audience. A few examples of lighting techniques are key lighting, fill lighting, hard lighting, soft lighting, natural lighting, high key lighting, and low key lighting.  A lighting crew during film production, from  https://www.adorama.com/alc/basic-cinematography-lighting-techniques/ Key lighting is usually the strongest amount of lighting in a scene or photo. In film, key lighting is used to bring attention to a certain detail of a scene. Fill lighting is used to get rid of shadows in a scene that are created from the key lighting. Fill lighting can also help make more elements of the scene more visible to the audience. Hard lighting can be used to focus attention to the main subject of a scene. Hard lighting can also be use...

Blog Post #2 - Propps character theory

Image
Propp's character theory is a theory made by Vladimir Propp that characters can be defined by the role that they play in a story. The seven archetypes of Propp's character theory are the hero, the villain, the donor, the helper, the princess, the dispatcher, and the false hero. The hero is the protagonist of the story and is the main character. The villain of the story is the antagonist who is against the protagonist. The dispatcher is the character who sends the protagonist on their mission. The helper is the character who accompanies the protagonist on their journey. The donor is the character who provides the protagonist with something that will help them achieve their main goal. The princess is the reward for the protagonist. The last archetype of Propp's character theory is the false hero. The false hero is a character who at the start was not a villain but they try to prevent the protagonist from achieving their goal. Blog post #1-Final Project Idea

Image
My opening sequence idea for the project is to make a scene where a house gets robbed by a mastermind criminal who is said to be the best robber in the whole state of Florida and after he successfully robs the house the scene will end with him and his partner in crime going off to rob another house. I am planning to film this at night to be able to build suspense and have very low lighting outside of the houses. I will be using foley elements to create more realistic footsteps to build more suspense. Patriarchy representation will be used throughout my final project by showing both mastermind criminals being males. Over the shoulder shots will be used to show individuals having conversations and to show what characters are holding. Eyeline matches will also be used to show what characters are looking at in that moment.  A criminal robbing a house, from https://www.istockphoto.com/photos/house-robbery   I will use juxtaposition to show what the owner of the house is doing while...
